Pet Portrait Gifts *
If someone in your life is obsessed with their dog, their cat, or their horse — you already know that finding them a truly meaningful gift isn't easy.
A custom pet portrait from Paw & Mane is one of those rare gifts that genuinely surprises people. Not just another voucher or a nice-but-forgettable present. A real, hand-painted portrait of the animal they love most, made just for them.
I'm Megan, a UK-based artist creating personalised pet portraits from photos across the UK and Ireland. Whether you're shopping for a birthday, Christmas, Mother's Day, or just want to give something that will be talked about for years — a custom pet portrait gift is something they'll hang on their wall and treasure for life.
Why a pet portrait makes the perfect gift
There are gifts people appreciate, and then there are gifts people never forget. A hand-painted portrait of someone's dog or cat falls firmly into the second category — and here's why it works so well as a gift.
It's completely personal. You can't buy this in a shop, you can't find it in a catalogue, and no two portraits are the same. Every painting is made specifically for the animal being portrayed, which means the person receiving it knows you went out of your way to give them something that couldn't belong to anyone else.
It lasts. Unlike flowers that fade or chocolates that disappear, a portrait on canvas is something that hangs on the wall for years — possibly decades. Every time they look at it, they'll think of you.
It works for almost any occasion. Birthdays, Christmas, Mother's Day, Father's Day, Valentine's Day, retirements, new homes — a pet portrait gift fits naturally into all of them. It's also one of the most thoughtful ways to help someone celebrate a new pet or remember one they've lost.
And critically — it doesn't require you to know their home décor, their size, or their taste in jewellery. If they love their pet, they will love a portrait of their pet. It's that simple.
How the gifting process works
Commissioning a pet portrait as a gift is straightforward, and I've made the whole process as easy as possible for gift-buyers specifically.
Step 1 — Get in touch with their pet's photos
Fill out the commission form or email me at pawandmane.portraits@gmail.com with a few photos of the pet. You don't need permission from the recipient — you're organising this as a surprise, and I'll keep everything discreet. Photos from your own phone or borrowed from their social media work perfectly.
Step 2 — We agree on the details
I'll get back to you within 24 hours to discuss the size, background colour, and any specific details you'd like included. Not sure what size to choose? I'm happy to advise based on where they're likely to display it.
Step 3 — I paint the portrait and send you a preview
Once I start work, I'll send you a progress photo so you can see how it's coming together. This is your chance to request any changes before the painting is finished — the likeness, the expression, the background. I want you to feel completely confident before anything is finalised.
Step 4 — No deposit, pay only when you're happy
Unlike many artists, I don't require a deposit upfront. You'll only pay once you've seen the preview and you're completely satisfied. This matters especially for gift-givers — you won't be spending money on something you haven't seen yet.
Step 5 — Free delivery to you or directly to the recipient
Once you've paid, I'll carefully package the portrait and ship it free of charge anywhere in the UK or Ireland. If you'd like it sent directly to the recipient as a surprise, just let me know their address and I'll sort it.
Not sure which size to choose?
Choosing the right size is often the question gift-buyers ask most. Here's a simple guide:
The Small (6x8 inch) portrait starts at £150 and works beautifully as a desk piece or a smaller framed print — ideal for an office, a bedroom, or somewhere intimate.
The Medium (8x11 inch) from £190 is the most popular choice for gifts. It's a meaningful size that works in most rooms without being overwhelming, and it makes a proper statement when framed.
The Large (12x16 inch) from £250 is a showpiece — the kind of portrait that becomes the focal point of a room. Perfect if the recipient has a dedicated space for it, or if you want to give something truly impressive.
The XL (16x20 inch) from £320 is the largest option, ideal for serious pet lovers who you know will display it prominently. A real statement gift.
All sizes include free UK and Ireland delivery. If you're unsure, Medium is almost always the right call — and I'm always happy to advise.
What about a gift card?
Not quite ready to organise the photos yourself? A Paw & Mane gift card lets the recipient choose their own portrait — they provide the photos, pick the size, and work directly with me on the details.
Gift cards are available in any amount and can be sent digitally or as a printed card. Just email me at pawandmane.portraits@gmail.com to arrange one.

FAQs
CAN I COMMISSION A PAINTING WITHOUT THE RECIPIENT KNOWING?
Absolutely. I handle all gift commissions discreetly. I'll never contact the recipient directly, and I can ship the portrait to your address or directly to theirs — whichever works best for your surprise.
What if I don't have great photos of their pet?
A lot of gift-buyers are in this position. Most people have photos of their friends' or family's pets on their phones, or you can find them on their social media. WhatsApp photos, Facebook pictures, Instagram posts — all of these work. Just send me what you have and I'll tell you honestly if it's enough to work from.
Can I request a rush order for a birthday or Christmas?
Yes — if you have a specific date in mind, mention it when you get in touch and I'll let you know if I can accommodate it. Most portraits are completed within two to four weeks, so getting in touch a month before the occasion is ideal. For Christmas, I'd recommend ordering by the end of November to be safe.
Do I need to pay anything upfront?
No deposit is required. You'll pay once you've seen the completed portrait and you're happy with it. This makes commissioning as a gift much less stressful — you're not committing money to something you haven't seen.
Can you paint multiple pets in one portrait?
Yes, and a multi-pet portrait makes an especially meaningful gift if the recipient has more than one animal. Get in touch for a custom quote.
What if I want to give it as a gift but I'm not sure what size they'd prefer?
y honest recommendation is the Medium (8x11 inch) — it works in almost any home, it's a serious size without being overwhelming, and it's the most popular choice among gift-buyers. But if you have a sense of their space, I'm happy to advise.
